China celebrates sweet double Photo Album 1 | 2 | 3


13th October, Shanghai: Tour debutants, Yang Liyan and Mi Zhongli celebrated a sweet double for China after emerging as Women's and Men's champions of the inaugural 2016 ABF Tour China leg at Hao's Bowling Centre on Thursday.

Yang, 36 dispatched Indonesia's Putty Armein, 212-184 in the women's final to win her first-ever international title. The champion started the match with a strike and a spare in her first two frames but stumbled to an open frame in the third.

Armein converted all her spares in the first three frames but trailed by three pins. Yang struck again to take her lead to 16 pins as the Indonesian made a fourth spare. Whilst Armein failed to knock down any strikes in her next three frames, Yang rolled more strikes in the sixth and eight frames to open a bigger gap of 27 pins.

Although Armein struck in the eighth frame, she had another open frame in the ninth and eventually lost the match, 184-212. Yang had reached the final after she narrowly beat Hong Kong's Chan Shuk Han, 190-178 in the first semi-final match.

Armein edged team-mate, Novie Phang, 177-149 in the other all-Indonesian semi-final match to advance to the championship round. Yang pocketed the top prize of US$1,000 and was awarded a trophy while Armein settled for US$500 as first runner-up. Chan and Phang earned US$250 each as second runner-ups.


In the closely-fought all-China Men's final, China Open 2016 Senior Masters champion, Mi Zhongli came away with the victory by edging Shi Guangming, 221-212. The 55-year-old Mi started off with a strike in his opening frame as Shi had two open frames.

Shi recovered with a double in the third and fourth frames to narrow the gap from 32 pins to just nine. Although Shi knocked down another strike in the sixth frame, Mi doubled in the sixth and seventh frames to widen the margin on his opponent.

Mi wrapped up the match to win his first-ever tour title but had to work hard in the all-lefty second semi-final match against Singapore's Remy Ong with a 228-225 victory to reach the final.

Shi defeated newly-crowned China Open champion, Sam Cooley of Australia, 235-224 in the first semi-final match to face Mi in the final. Mi won US$1,000 and was awarded a trophy while Shi settled for US$500. Ong and Cooley picked up US$250 each as second runner-ups.

The top 16 Asian men ans top 16 Asian women from the final standings of the China International Open 2016 earned the right to compete in the fifth leg of the 2016 ABF Tour in a single knockout match format over the new World Bowling ten-frame scoring system.

The China leg with the official partner, Alisports was broadcast live by Youku TV station and telecast to major TV stations in Asia. The next leg in Jakarta, Indonesia on October 24 will be the final leg of this year's tour.

The top 16 men and top 16 women based on the ranking points earned from all the stops, will qualify for the ABF Tournament of Champions, provisionally scheduled in March in 2017.
